Rats, Cockroaches out of Thy Kitchen.

Image
Keeping pests out of your kitchen.  I was visiting a friend recently for the weekend and just towards the evening of one of the days, well, at about 8pm, I entered the fairly dark kitchen to find out that I have to compete with a few granny cockroaches and hundreds of little ones to the extent that one mighty one almost fell into the pot of beans I wanted to open. It wasn't a funny sight, I came out of the kitchen wondering what could be wrong, It's a big house belonging to a middle class couple. I started to assess the kitchen hygiene critically and it wasn't long I discovered what might have caused the scene I just watched.  A kitchen is a dedicated place for food and food items. We may not be able to do without cooking, or eating in a day, all table activities are connected to the kitchen, it's like a food refinery. These food goes directly into us and their content is absorbed into our system including the ones that came from the pests.  A pest is any creature ...

WHY HYPERTENSION IS COMMON AT MENOPAUSE.

Image
Relationship Between Hypertension and Menopause.  Do we know that women after menopause (post menopausal) are more at risk of hypertension than premenopausal women? I will be focusing on hypertension from a post menopausal view in this article.  Menopause is said to be attained when there's lack of Menstrual flow for 12 month completed. The average age for menopause is 51yrs, although some women attain it early, this is called Premature menopause, usually at age less than 40yrs. What is hypertension? It is the force in the blood vessels the heart needs to overcome to pump blood through the body. It can be likened to increased pressure in pipes of water making the pump work harder and harder to get water to the sight it is needed. The pipes are blood vessels while the pump is the heart. It's that simple. Now, according to American College of Cardiology 2018, someone is judged to have normal blood pressure with values less than and elevated blood pressure at a value of 12...

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI)  Introduction A child is said to be Premature if it is born before 37 completed weeks of gestational life likewise is anything that happened before the time allotted for it. Researches have shown that the average age for menopause is 51yrs and that complete cessation of flow before 40yrs is termed Premature Menopause of which the major causative factor is Ovarian insufficiency or failure even at that age. Premature Ovarian Insufficiency also referred to as Premature Ovarian failure, Premature menopause, early menopause is when the ovaries stopped functioning before the age of 40. The ovaries are both endocrine and reproductive organs, the stoppage of these 2 functions brings about Premature menopause or infertility. Most of the time, the ovary will regain its functionality intermittently hence the word insufficiency is used and preferred more than the word failure.  Premature Ovarian Insufficiency is more than just the ovaries stopp...

Reasons Some Don't Get t Pregnant Early.

Image
Under normal circumstances, ordinary casual sex may do, once or twice, to get a woman pregnant, but when the issue of infertility comes in, we then look more into probable inadequacy of one or two factors necessary for fertility.  In my course of working as a medical doctor, I have seen a woman looking forward to get pregnant yet taking oral contraceptives and this may be funny, but it's true, I have also seen a woman who has sex once a month (only when her husband comes home) and is also looking for a child.  A couple looking forward to conceiving must in all fact consider this list.  Adequate and Regular intercourse. Intercourse is said to be adequate if it occurs at least 2-3 times (different days) a week.  Unprotected intravaginal sex: there's no how pregnancy can occur in a protected sex, again the penis must really be inside the vagina and the act must be followed by the man depositing right inside the vagina.  Living under the same roof. You are mo...

Prevention of family diseases.

Genetic implications of raising a family.  Here on this blog we have been learning about raising a healthy family. We had about 3 posts on how to raise a healthy family and what should be put into consideration when raising a family. We have talked about how setting a vision and having knowledge could serve as pillars in raising a healthy family. Kindly find these posts here bolahealthconsult.blospot.com. You will be glad you did.  Onto the matter of the day, humans are embodiment of genetic materials, we are made up of genes, the smallest unit of inheritance. This implies that there is a great implication in genetics when a man and a woman come together to have a child in order to raise a family and to have a healthy one at that. Genes are not seen but are the loudest composition of humans. They are the units by which traits, characters and even diseases can be passed from parents to offspring and from one generation to another.  While planning a family, you might...

Thin people can develop Diabetes Mellitus.

Image
I recently taught some group of people on the topic (Myths of diabetes) and it was an interesting time. Everything in life has Myths that human minds have conceived. Myths can be gotten from diluted or modified facts. Diseases like diabetes have their own Myths. Let's mention a few with their facts.  People with diabetes cannot eat sugar or carbohydrates.  fact: A diabetic can eat anything but in moderation. A fist-sized carbohydrate is better recommended while filling the rest of the plate with veggies and protein. Generally for a healthy lifestyle, carbohydrate should be about a quarter of the plate. Moderate intake of food with medication and regular exercise are better combined. Do not take medication without eating. Type 2 diabetes affects only fat people.  Fact: The word 'only' makes it false. There's no absolute in medical science, moreover there are thin people living with diabetes. It is worthy of note however that being fat is a risk factor for type 2 d...
