Reasons Some Don't Get t Pregnant Early.

Image
Under normal circumstances, ordinary casual sex may do, once or twice, to get a woman pregnant, but when the issue of infertility comes in, we then look more into probable inadequacy of one or two factors necessary for fertility.  In my course of working as a medical doctor, I have seen a woman looking forward to get pregnant yet taking oral contraceptives and this may be funny, but it's true, I have also seen a woman who has sex once a month (only when her husband comes home) and is also looking for a child.  A couple looking forward to conceiving must in all fact consider this list.  Adequate and Regular intercourse. Intercourse is said to be adequate if it occurs at least 2-3 times (different days) a week.  Unprotected intravaginal sex: there's no how pregnancy can occur in a protected sex, again the penis must really be inside the vagina and the act must be followed by the man depositing right inside the vagina.  Living under the same roof. You are mo...

Prevention of family diseases.

Genetic implications of raising a family.  Here on this blog we have been learning about raising a healthy family. We had about 3 posts on how to raise a healthy family and what should be put into consideration when raising a family. We have talked about how setting a vision and having knowledge could serve as pillars in raising a healthy family. Kindly find these posts here bolahealthconsult.blospot.com. You will be glad you did.  Onto the matter of the day, humans are embodiment of genetic materials, we are made up of genes, the smallest unit of inheritance. This implies that there is a great implication in genetics when a man and a woman come together to have a child in order to raise a family and to have a healthy one at that. Genes are not seen but are the loudest composition of humans. They are the units by which traits, characters and even diseases can be passed from parents to offspring and from one generation to another.  While planning a family, you might...

Thin people can develop Diabetes Mellitus.

Image
I recently taught some group of people on the topic (Myths of diabetes) and it was an interesting time. Everything in life has Myths that human minds have conceived. Myths can be gotten from diluted or modified facts. Diseases like diabetes have their own Myths. Let's mention a few with their facts.  People with diabetes cannot eat sugar or carbohydrates.  fact: A diabetic can eat anything but in moderation. A fist-sized carbohydrate is better recommended while filling the rest of the plate with veggies and protein. Generally for a healthy lifestyle, carbohydrate should be about a quarter of the plate. Moderate intake of food with medication and regular exercise are better combined. Do not take medication without eating. Type 2 diabetes affects only fat people.  Fact: The word 'only' makes it false. There's no absolute in medical science, moreover there are thin people living with diabetes. It is worthy of note however that being fat is a risk factor for type 2 d...

Ringworm: Prevention and treatment.

Image
Ringworm: What is it? How can I know have it or at least prevent it? Hi friends, I got an invitation from a journalist to be interviewed on this particular subject matter, so I thought of sharing it with you. Have a great read.  What is Ringworm?   Ringworm is a very common type of infection caused by a group of fungi on the scalp, hair, body, nail, underpants, feet and virtually any part of the body where there's skin, hair and nails. The words 'Tinea infection' is used medically for this condition such that it is called Tinea capitis for scalp infection, Tinea corporis if found on the body, Tinea cruris for underpant infection, inner thighs and buttocks, Tinea unguium for nail infection and it goes on like that depending on the part of the body affected.  Exactly what causes Ringworm?   Ringworm is caused by fungi, there are different types in this Tinea category. These types are also called dermatophytes (skin plants). Fungi are microorganisms that can also...

SICKLE CELL ANEMIA: Coping Strategies and Prevention

Image
SICKLE CELL ANEMIA: COPING STRATEGIES.   There are warriors out there battling with this preventable disease.  What is sickle cell disease?  It's a disease that originated from the genetic makeup of the red blood cells. The normal is the AA genotype, however due to mutation and rearrangement of the components of this gene, we get a new combination entirely giving us the S type. There are also more types of new combinations including the C type. Being a SS or SC depends on what is combined as a pair in the genetic composition of the red blood cells.  While the above remains purely genetic and scientific we should understand that those bad combinations resulted in the recurrent crises these people have.  The normal genotype A blood cells is round in shape making them able to carry red blood cells round the body and do not change shapes in the presence of reduced oxygen, however, the S or C blood is Unstable and changes shape suddenly losing its oxygen carrying cap...

Limiting The Health Consequences of Rape

Image
In our world today, there seems to be an increase in the prevalence of rape more than before, although it might have been because of the increase awareness of ways out and increase reportings bringing up parts of the iceberg buried in water. Now everyone's tentacles are more sensitive to prevention and reporting of rapes, many thanks to various campaigns all over the world. Rape like every other negative actions surely has its negative consequences, yet more on the person that was the victim than on the rapist. It's a matter of a few minutes of enjoyment for one and a life-time damage for the other. The major aspect of life that's so much affected in this damage is health. Health at all its levels: physical (body) mental (mind) and social (relationships) is usually gravely affected. The damages done is more grievous and likely to be on a long term effects if the case is not properly handled by a prompt report to a health facility or a facility that handles rape for example ...

The skin is the largest organ of the body, covering the whole body surfaces from the scalp to the feet. It is the 1st thing to notice on sighting someone. In a very subtle way, the skin has a way of telling someone's age, nutritional status, hemodynamic status(whether someone has enough red blood cells), and presence of an ongoing disease or illness.  The skin has so many functions ranging from physiological functions like protection from the sun and outside world, salt and water balance, production of vitamin D to cosmetic functions like beauty and racial differentiation. Absence of skin, skin diseases or skin failure due to one disease or the other can be disastrous and may lead to death. Hence the skin should be taken care of and its integrity maintained.
