True life story; my journey with Hepatitis B

When I heard that I was infected with the hepatitis B virus. It followed all sorts of  things, about how I could have gotten the virus, knowing there was no case of hepatitis in my family. I started doing research to see how I could have come in contact with the virus, blood transfusions -no, sexual contact – I was too young, drugs, no. That was the beginning of Manuela's story and how she later conquered the drama associated with being infected with hepatitis B. More of the remaining story will come up as you read on. Welcome to a blissful read. In this write up I shall be writing about hepatitis B and sometimes will mention hepatitis C. DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT INFORMATION TO RAISE A FAMILY?

Image
You are educated, right! beautiful. Do you know that only right education, right information can be a strong pillar of a healthy family? We have introduced the 5 pillars of a healthy family in the first post, and I have discussed having a vision and proper planning as the first pillar. The next on the list is education and information.  Education is the best legacy they say, it is the process of achieving, values, skills , beliefs and moral habits.  When we are talking about education as a pillar of a healthy family, we will be short of credibility if we only look into formal or classroom education.  Informal education and information is an integral part of this pillar such as including cultures and social values. How do you perceive illness and health from the point of view of your cultural and religious background?  Unto the classroom or Internet students, what information do you know ...

I hope I have brought up the memory of your primary school definition of a family.  What is a healthy family?  A 'just a family' is differen...

HOW YOU CAN ENJOY SWEET FOOD WITHOUT MUCH SALT

Image
In 200level medical school, I had this room mate who was a good cook but her food seems saltless to my taste bud. Tolulope, now Dr Akinnimi Tolulope will cook nice food yet with as little salt and oil as possible. It was strange to me even though then I had a little knowledge of why I should reduce salt intake but I couldn't really comprehend the greatness of its importance.  Looking back now, with so much medical knowledge I have gained over 8 years ago, I must say that my room mate was wiser then. You see, one thing about habit changing is that it could look strange to you and others at first but when you keep at it, it becomes your character. Reduction of salt in diet can become a part of you. Wait, salt is very important, yes, very very impotant. Salt is used for preserving food and to prevent food spoilage, we also use it more importantly to add taste to our food. Salt (table salt) contains sodium and chlorine. It is this sodium content that we need to watch, since we cannot s...
