Myths and facts surrounding infertility

Generally, the human mind has the power of building concepts both real and unreal in most cases, especially the ones over which it does not have a control.

Here are the common myths with the absolute facts.

Fact: Judging by the Knowledge of when ovulation takes place and especially the viability of the ovum, it is a fact that it may be too late if sex comes after ovulation. How accurate do you think you will be on tracking ovulation? How possibly do you think the sperm will fertilize the egg at that time? Best thing is to have regular sex so sperm is in the tract at ovulation.

Myth: Ovulation occurs on day 14

Fact: This is not accurate as cycles change even in someone with a normal 28 days cycle, only the days between ovulation and Menstruation is fairly constant (14days). Ovulation rather occurs 14 days backwards from the day your flow starts.

Fact: You must note that the sperm can stay up to 6 days in the womb tract and a short cycle can ovulate to catch up.

Myth: Ovaries take turn to ovulate

Fact: There's are no separate hormonal mechanisms for each Ovaries. They both receive the same blood flow containing the same hormones with the same stimulation, only a mature follicle in any of the ovaries will release ovum and both can at the same time hence the non identical twins.

Fact: You need to have sex 2-3 times a week. Everyday sex may not be fine for the male gender, and some rest is needed for sperm production and storage.

Fact: There's usually a return of ovulation immediately with most of the methods, more time may be needed for the hormonal ones. Years spent in birth control is adding to the woman's age. The higher the years spent in contraception, the higher the age of the woman hence the higher the risk of infertility.

Myth: if you want to get pregnant, you need to have sex in the missionary position.

Fact:  Some women's uterus are not normally placed and other sexual positions may be beneficial.

Fact: Man has about the same percentage cause as the woman. There are other causes too.

Myth: just relax you will get pregnant right away

Fact: please don't, seek advice. Time will not relax for you.

Myth: If sperm flow back after sex, it's a cause of infertility.

Fact: Sperm are expected to flow back after sex, only a small quantity is indeed in there to fertilize the egg and of course only one cell is needed to fertilize the egg. In a case like this, there is usually another cause of infertility which should be explored.
