That's was not a mere statistics but a significant one.
Welcome once again to another read on hepatitis.
This post will be based on one of the viral causes of hepatitis we discussed in part 1: Hepatitis A. Kindly read part 1 if you haven't
What is hepatitis A?
It is a kind of hepatitis caused by hepatitis A virus.
How can someone get hepatitis A?
Note that hepatitis A is very contagious, it has higher rate of transmission from person to person.
1. Commonly through contact with feces of an infected person... This means is referred to as feco-oral when your hand comes in contact with feces of an infected person and you ingest it. This is the similarity between this virus and hepatitis E virus. Feco-oral, of course can go in many directions.
a. Buying food at restaurant when personal hygiene of those cooking is questionable.

b. Lack of hand washing, and this unwashed hand is used to eat.
c. Travellers are at risk because they tend to buy food by road sides or patronize restaurant.
d. People who work in the creche. These people change diapers and are in contact with feces.
e. Eating unwashed fruits.

f. Eating vegetable that's not properly washed.
The gist here is that hepatitis A is transmitted from hand to mouth most of the time. Virus of hepatitis A is shed in the feces of an infected person.
2. Occasionally through having sex with someone who has the virus. The practice of blow Job or plate licking.
3. Homosexuality; anal sex implicated.
4. Those who abuse drugs through the vein.
5. Occasionally via blood transfusion.
6. Homeless people and those who live in overcrowded houses.
7. Drinking contaminated water.
What are the symptoms of hepatitis A?
please refer to the part 1 of this write up. Whatever the cause of the hepatitis, the symptoms and signs are always the same.
How can one prevent Hepatitis A?
Very simple, am sure you can guess from the above.
1. Vaccination: there's a vaccination available for this condition. Get your vaccine, it is very available to adult and children (18 months and 2years)
2. Hand washing, perform this ritual regularly. Do it after visiting the toilet, before eating, after changing diaper and before cooking.
3. Wash fruits and vegetable properly
4. Minimize mama put or restaurant visiting as much as possible.
5. Use of hand sanitizers
6. Improve on your personal hygiene generally.
7. Proper disposal of feces.
8. If you are required to have blood transfusion, ensure it is screened properly.
9. Boil water to drink if the cleanliness is questionable.
In conclusion, Hepatitis A is preventable but can be fatal and lead to death when contracted. Make use of the preventive measures. As a parent you should ensure your kids get vaccinated and also do likewise.
