The Midwives
It was World Midwives day on May 5th. The midwives are important noble health workers and I am particularly passionate about their work of bringing to life and securing that life in place. So many things could go wrong without a midwife, I have some as friends and coworkers. They are not necessarily women but any man or woman trained to deliver pregnant women and also ensure the safety of mother and child is a midwife. They were the savior of the olden Hebrew women.
The Hebrew women were known to the Egyptians to have given birth by themselves without the help of a doctor or midwives, however, the real story says that the midwives deceived Pharaoh. They were actually present to conduct those deliveries. In our world today, many are self professed Hebrew women and most pregnant women would like to be one during labor meaning they hope to deliver all by themselves which can be very disastrous. However, a Hebrew woman is a woman who delivers safely without complications and with the intervention of a skilled and wise midwife who knows how to take mother and child to safety by shielding them from killers like the king Pharaoh.
The pride of every midwife is to deliver a Hebrew woman. In this day and age, A Hebrew woman will be a strong woman who has ample correct information on pregnancy, labor and delivery because she reads and asks questions. She understands that she could make use of technological advancements in cases of difficult deliveries. She knows that indeed skilled midwives were present in those days too and so she will submit herself to only a skilled birth attendant when labor comes. She signs up for antenatal care immediately and as soon as she has been confirmed pregnant by blood test and ultrasound scan. She takes only her prenatal vitamins. She studies her body and knows when something isn't right so she can present to the hospital first and not the pharmacy or laboratory. She keeps all her appointments. She listens to her midwife and follows all instructions for the well being of her and the child. She is the prayer of every midwife.
At delivery, the cry of the baby and the smile of the mother are goals to a midwife and a sigh of 'mission accomplished' can be made. I celebrate all midwives all over the world as they save the world one woman at a time. Happy International Midwives' Day.
