INDOOR CLEANING: Better Approach.
INDOOR CLEANING: Better Approach.
……Let's start with a story…...
Mrs. Alabi got home from a three-day business trip on a Friday evening, and she suddenly realized that the next day won't be for resting as she had thought. The sitting room was like it had just hosted a party involving people with different personalities. She could see open books and magazines on the chairs, clothes, plates, cups and shoes scattered about and at this time, she could only imagine what the kitchen would be like. She’s a mum of two kids of preschool age and a wife to a ‘work from home’ Man who cares little about home arrangement and cleanliness just like some men do.
How will Mrs Alabi enjoy her weekend despite all she met at home?
Introduction: Yes! it's an opportunity to write again after a very long break. Right about now, you will be reading about something almost all of us do daily, well, except for the big bosses and the older generation. We all clean, sweep and make efforts to tidy up our home but I doubt if we know that there's a process to it.
The process of cleaning
Cleaning should follow a due process. Cleaning can be exhausting so don't just grab a broom and approach it, you should start from somewhere and end elsewhere.
………back to Mrs Alabi
She got advice from a friend to turn a blind eye as the first approach to the situation so she could take a rest from her trip. After a satisfying and refreshing sleep, she got up the next day with so much strength and started with the first step in cleaning. She recruits her loving husband and the elder kid in the process. Below was the template she followed.
Arranging: Arrange the area for cleaning by returning things to the place meant for them. For example, before cleaning a sitting room, return the remote control to its space, the teacups, flower vase, files and many other things that may be around. Put them all back to where they should be.
Dusting: This should follow immediately. Dust glasses, windows and wooden furniture. Wetting might be needed depending on the amount of dust to be cleaned to prevent respiratory infection or reactions. It is also at this stage that you remove all spider webs.
Sweeping: This is the removal of physical dirt out of site to be packed away into a bin for trashing. The broom to be used should be the type that is posture friendly. The longer the broom the better for the sweeper's back.
Mopping and Vacuuming. This is the removal of dust and dirt and tiny particles not removable by sweeping from the floor or carpets depending on the type of floor you have. Which should come first depends on your discretion, the sizes of particles you want to remove and what is available to you, whether a mop, vacuum cleaner or both. You can also vacuum clean your sofa using the right vacuum cleaner.
Air Freshening. Next is to install or ensure installation of air fresheners to keep up some good smell for visitors and dwellers.
Trashing. All dirt removed should be taken out of the clean premises into a bigger bin outside the compound. Dirt should be sorted; bottles, glasses, plastics, kitchen waste, medical waste, hazardous waste should all be in different packages for easy incineration or recycling for the waste management company. There are color bags assigned to each type of waste, household waste usually goes into a black bag. These bags should be tied securely to ensure environmental cleanliness and minimize pests like rodents, odor and pollution of the streets or communities. It is expected that the waste management company in each community should regularly and timely pick up waste from designated sites to keep the environment clean and tidy.
Hand washing. This is the end of cleaning activity. It is a single most important way of keeping the whole body healthy from contamination and also a way of prevention of infection. A clean hand may be a healthy body. Wash hands with soap and water.
Resting: After a job well done, reward yourself by taking a shower and resting. Resting is important for restoration of strength for other mental and physical activities.
………. Mrs. Alabi actually enjoyed the rest of the weekend with her family
In conclusion, living in a place scattered and not arranged despite thorough sweeping is like bathing without a change of clothing. The body odor would still be perceived from the old clothes. Cleanliness is more than just removing dirt.
